Conscious consumption and natural products: how to understand it?

2025 03 14

Terms like “natural” or “paraben-free” appear everywhere, but true conscious consumption means understanding what’s inside. It’s not just about avoiding ingredients - it’s about knowing their role in safety and effectiveness. So, how can you tell if a product is genuinely natural?

Real naturality follows standards. At BIOK LAB, we ensure transparency by adhering to ISO 16128-1:2016, which defines natural content based on clear criteria, not assumptions. According to this standard, natural ingredients include plant-based oils, mineral substances, and materials of animal or bacterial origin. A natural ingredient must have at least 50% natural raw material in its composition. At BIOK LAB, we are committed to developing innovative and natural cosmetics, ensuring that our formulations contain over 80% natural raw materials.

But why not 100% natural? While high natural content is our priority, complete naturalness isn't always ideal. Synthetic preservatives prevent contamination and ensure safety, while certain synthetic pigments and fragrances offer better stability and lower allergy risk. Chemical UV filters provide superior sun protection, and silicones and thickeners enhance texture and application.

A well-balanced formula isn’t just a mix of trendy extracts - it’s a precise combination of actives that ensure effectiveness.
